Re:gun numb info
the problem with spaz info line is that after 10 messages or hang up clicks the mailbox is full and won't even recite the outgoing message so unless you constanly want to be updating that shit
hum numb broken...
sure enough, shortly after I posted directions on 800-gun-numb, it choked and and as of 2359 06 August it's busted.
I'll keep you posted.

is that it right there?
Re:gun numb info
pretty close to a man made lake and mt st hellens. looks nice, on the internets at least
Re:gun numb info
How about posting directions for that final stretch off the highway not posted on the map?
Re:gun numb info
i'm seeing a rd 93 where the rd 9300 should be according to the web directions...this is from google earth and yahoo maps, and i'm seeing no rd 620...please post accurate directions, i don't think many people want to get lost out there like what happened at mt. shasta.
many thanks
Re:gun numb info
...And thank you so much to all of the scouters for being the ones to go out there and find us all a spot! Muchos gracias!
Re:gun numb info
the map is just as well as i could figure it from the web directions. its not confirmed to be acurate or anything
Re:gun numb info
We should work on getting a more detailed map, or at least written directions for that last stretch of the road.
Somebody who knows area should probably do it.
Re:gun numb info
I'm not sure, but I think this is the 620rd the site is on
http//nmviewogc.cr.usgs.gov/Run.htm?BBOX=-121.99903,46.10814,-121.9892,46.11291&CLASSIDSON=39|3|64|20&LAYERSON=12458|838|10362|16962|16964|3476|10361|10360|5481|9590&LAYERSOFF=3380|10464|9924|9521

Again, not sure, but I think this should be in the USGS BURNT PEAK, WA quadrangle topo map.
Re:gun numb info
Hey, I appreciate it.
Would anybody be willing to type out the directions in words as they are spoken on the voice mail? If I had the combination of a map and written directions that would be awesome.
Re:gun numb info
I went to REI to look at some real maps, and, using the coordinates I linked to on the maps above (Long -121 59' 27", Lat 46 06' 41''), printed off a map with their map machine. The whole thing is too large to fit on a scanner, but I've scanned and uploaded the middle of it
http//www.pig-monkey.com/images/mutantxmap.jpg (6.7MB)
What I've highlighted in the middle is road 620. You can see the double dashed line north of it that leads south to the right turn to 620 -- this is 9039. The thick bold line it is leading from is 93.
Northwest of 620, you can see where I've highlighted the turn from 25 onto 93.
The sight can also be seen on the very left edge of Green Trail Map number 365 (Lone Butte ... http//www.greentrails.com/ ). That map kinda sucks alone, but if you could print off the scan of my map above and pick up the green trail at rei for $5, you'll probably be set.
Since the sight is right on the edge of that map, I also bought Green Trail Map number 364 (Mt St Helens), which is the area directly west of the 365 map -- but it doesn't seem to help much.
Looking at all these maps, the directions posted on the site look plenty accurate -- with the exception of 9300 road always appearing on maps as 93.
Hope that helps. If you want to figure out where the hell you're camping (or are looking for hikes), find me at the fest (yell for Pig Monkey, I think I'll be there Wednesday). I'll have all these maps with me.
Re:gun numb info
By the way, if whoever updates the directions on the site wants to link to my map scan (or steal it and upload it to the mutant server), you have my permission.
Re:gun numb info
The Spaz number is totally worthless. I should have written the directions down the first time I called when I was actually able to hear the them.
What is the closest city so that I can do a mapquest search for driving directons from the SF bay area?
The maps are helpfull for sure, but if somebody could give written directions to the site from the highway, such as which road we turn off of, how many miles, what to look for ect, that would be even more helpfull then the maps.
I dont have any high tech GPS devices, and since the number is down I have nothing to go on other then my computer and my wits.
Example...Take highway 93 to highway 25, or vs, go 14.2 miles turn left at such and such road to highway 93 o3 9300 or whatever, go 2.8 miles to such and such road look for the such and such symbol and set odometer to (?).
Something like that would be perfect.

....like that?
Site description
Can anyone who has seen the site provide a description for the curious.
Is it dry dusty country like Klickitat or the gorge area or wooded and lush? Around these parts terrain can vary greatly from mile to mile. Haven't been able to determine from the USGS map.
see you on the full moon...

Re:gun numb info
According to what someone posted to the mailing list "Its wooded, not in a quarry."

Perfecto )
bronson pincho loves cousin larry
I was just up there not a week ago. It's perhaps the ideal climate/ecosystem. it's wet most of the year and full of shade and soft earthy grounds.
Re:gun numb info
Oh, lovely!
Re:gun numb info
i just want to give a special thank you to all those people doing internet and other research on finding the site. its really a great help to know more accurately what to expect! anymore info is helpful too!
...also it looks like the closest town is stevenson, WA. i believe its south of the site on the 25 or 90. but if you do a directions search thingy on the internet, it will probably send you along the 84 in place of the 503, but i'm guessing the 503 is the way to go, according the the scouting mutants...hope that helps! drive safely!!!!!
Re:gun numb info
Looking on google earth, the spot seems to be in a recovering clearcut area or something? detail is poor but it looks like a large rectangular patch that is a lighter shade of green than the surounding woods. you can see from the topo map posted earlier that its a half mile at most to a junction of two creeks, and it seems to have a nice sandy beech. gah, i cant wait to get out there!!
